The Hooked Haberdasher Battle of the Stitches #6

serenity-stitchA couple of weeks ago I was approached to challenge in the Battle of the Stitches #6 Challenge. For those not familiar with this challenge, it goes like this: 12 challengers are invited, we are given a theme and a stitch to use and then set loose to design, test, photograph and produce a pattern for a crochet pattern eBook all in TWO WEEKS!! That’s right, just two weeks. Each project is judged on best use of the stitch, best use of color to show the stitch, best overall design and most unique/creative design. The final design submissions are judged by a panel of crochet experts as well as YOU the fans! It was my pleasure to accept the challenge and I’m so glad I did! In addition to the personal challenge, it was an opportunity to build some camaraderie with fellow crocheters and the lovely team that runs this challenge headed up by Kate Wagstaff of Crafting Friends Designs. The challenge, a TOP SECRET mission involved a nail-biting week, and then with a sigh of “Ahhhhh” the theme and stitch were revealed to the challengers – SERENITY! In addition to providing a photograph of what serenity meant to us, we had to interpret it into the design. The required stitch is also named serenity and is a lovely lacy looking sequence which includes picots.

Serenity has always meant the beach to me – a favorite destination; and as such, my design evolved right before my eyes as I started to work on it. Not gonna try to fool you, I’m a bit excited to reveal which of the twelve designs is mine on Tuesday!

But for now, be sure to head on over to the Battle of the Stitches Blog and look at all of the submissions, then vote for your favorite 3 designs.

About thehookedhaberdasher

I was blessed with two dear Grandmothers who were wonderfully gifted and loved all the arts of handcrafting. At their knee, a wee little blonde girl learned the fine art of crochet under their wise and talented tutelage. Now that little girl has grown up and enjoys a lifestyle that affords me the time to put hooks, yummy yarns and fibers back into my hands, returning to the joy and fun of the art of handcrafted crochet. I am awed by the talent and creative patterns of modern new designers, but still enjoy the beauty of vintage patterns as well. My mind and hands are never idle, designing and handcrafting stylishly beautiful, practical, cozy, comfy, sweet and cute wearables and loveables for old and young alike. As a very detail oriented artist, I design and crochet with love, embracing the virtues bequested to me by those two beautiful Grandmothers.
