FREE PATTERN – Sweet Pillow Pincushion!

Free pattern – Sweet Pillow Pincushion!

I needed a new pincushion, as my donut that I made a few years ago has seen better days! Since I had an hour to spare, leftover yarn from another project, it was time to get busy… Where did my inspiration come from, well from my pins actually – aren’t they cute – heart pins!

R1: ch 21. Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each chain across, ch1, turn. (20)
R2-20: Work 1 sc in each st across, ch1, turn. Finish off with R20 and weave in tails. (20)

R1: Start with a magic circle, work 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 2 tr, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 2 sc, 1 hdc, 2 tr, 1 hdc, 2 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 2 tr, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc into the circle. Tighten magic circle. Do not join.
R2: Work 1 sc in next two sts, 2hdc in next two sts, 1 sc in next thirteen sts, 2hdc in next two sts, sc in next st, sl st in last st. Finish off leaving a long tail.
R3: Right side facing, with trim yarn attach yarn to the BLO of 1st st left of top center. *working in BLO ch3, sl st next st, ch4, sl st next st* repeat * sequence around to last st right of top center. Finish off, weave in tails to wrong side of motif.

FINISHING HEART MOTIF: Pull magic circle end tight, taking care not to break your yarn. Using your hook, pull finished tail through from backside through center hole to front a few times, pull tight (resulting in a nice center to your heart), weave tail end on back of motif to secure. Center your heart to the right side of one square with the top of the heart nearest the ending row of your square. Pin heart in place, and using your long tail end and tapestry needle, sew around heart motif to square, taking care to avoid your lace edging. Weave in tail to wrong side of square, trim tail.

ASSEMBLY OF SWEET PILLOW PINCUSHION: The lacy edging is also seaming your pillow together – make sure you are working your stitches through both squares simultaneously, matching rows and stitches evenly.
With wrong sides together, attach trim yarn in upper left corner of the last row of your squares, working through both squares. Begin working down one “selvage edge”. [Ch3, sc same st, ch4, sc same st (corner made)]. *Ch3, sc next stitch, ch4, sc next st*, repeat * sequence evenly 19 more times to next corner. [Ch3, sc same st, ch4, sc same st (corner made)]. *Ch3, sc next stitch, ch4, sc next st*, repeat * sequence evenly 19 more times to next corner. [Ch3, sc same st, ch4, sc same st (corner made)]. *Ch3, sc next stitch, ch4, sc next st*, repeat * sequence evenly 13 more times. Stuff your pincushion with fiberfill to your liking. Finish the last six sts, repeating the same sequence of ch3, sc next st, ch4, sc next st to end, finish off with a sc in the last st. Weave in tails.

About thehookedhaberdasher

I was blessed with two dear Grandmothers who were wonderfully gifted and loved all the arts of handcrafting. At their knee, a wee little blonde girl learned the fine art of crochet under their wise and talented tutelage. Now that little girl has grown up and enjoys a lifestyle that affords me the time to put hooks, yummy yarns and fibers back into my hands, returning to the joy and fun of the art of handcrafted crochet. I am awed by the talent and creative patterns of modern new designers, but still enjoy the beauty of vintage patterns as well. My mind and hands are never idle, designing and handcrafting stylishly beautiful, practical, cozy, comfy, sweet and cute wearables and loveables for old and young alike. As a very detail oriented artist, I design and crochet with love, embracing the virtues bequested to me by those two beautiful Grandmothers.
